As eventstarted out as a small affair for Japanese expatriates to immerse their children in Japanese culture in 1977 has now grown into a much-awaited annual event with about 35,000 participants every year. It is the single largest Japanese Cultural Event in Malaysia and is possibly the largest Bon Odori festival in the world outside Japan. The annual Bon Odori celebration in Malaysia is an effort to promote and strengthen cultural ties between Malaysia and Japan as well as to showcase Japanese culture to Malaysians.
