The origin of its name came from the following story – one of the founding ‘fathers’ set up camp after a long journey and started to cook using a makeshift kitchen called ‘sabak’ owned by ‘enam’ (meaning six) individuals. Hence, the name Sabak Bernam. Sabak Bernam is located by the Bernam river estuary, which is now named Sungai Lang.
For those looking for a laid-back travelling experience, you cannot go wrong with Sabak Bernam. This scenic coastal district surrounded by rice fields is surprisingly fun to explore. Grab a bicycle and roam around the dusty lanes of the rice paddies. Then, look for the village-famous prawn noodles, which is said to be the best in the area.
Enjoy the sunset while quenching your thrist with some coconut water by the Redang beach, a perfect spot to build castles and fly kites. Strike a conversation with the local people and listen to their tales of the village, who knows you may find an attraction that confounds you.
