Petaling was established in 1974, the same year Kuala Lumpur was declared a Federal Territory. Due to its location in the heart of the Klang Valley and to rapid urbanisation, it is the most progressive district in Selangor. The name originated from the ‘petaling’ trees (Ochanostachys amentacea) that were growing profusely in this area at that time.
Petaling has got to be the most upbeat and developed district in Selangor. Fun water parks, golf courses, malls, beautiful mosques, resorts and accommodation that can suit your budget and needs all can be found in this area. It’s no surprise that the listings are way longer than any other districts.
One very rare adventure that doesn’t exist in any other part of Malaysia is the indoor skydiving which mimics an actual outdoor skydive at 14,000 feet. If you want to experience skydiving without leaving a hole in your wallet, Air Rider at 1 Utama shopping centre in Damansara Utama is worth a visit.
If you are in town during the school holidays, there are plenty of activities to choose from. Visit Malaysia’s first and only interactive edutainment theme park KidZania where kids and teenagers get hands-on experience on real-life jobs through the attractions and activities.
