On August 11th, 2000, the world’s first Jing Si Books Café was established in Beach Street, Penang, Malaysia; since 2020, when everyone was enduring with the severe global COVID-19 pandemic situation, Jing Si Books Café, in compliance with the government’s pandemic prevention and control order ruling, has concurrently set foot on the development of Jing Si Online Shop, until today, there are already three online shops.

On October 10th, 2021, Jing Si Book Café main outlet in Penang underwent renovation works. During this duration, we are indeed very grateful to Jing Si resident volunteers, colleagues, Tzu Chi volunteers and people from all walks of life for their support and help. On May 5th, 2022, Jing Si Books Café has fully resume its operation, with an entirely new appearance to greet everyone with a warm welcome.

The design concept of Jing Si Books Cafe is based on Venerable Master Cheng Yen’s aspiration, accentuating on simplicity, oriental and creativity as the focal concept. Simplicity implies diligence and frugality, that is the ethical spirit of Jing Si. Making good use of the existing furniture, adding with a touch of designing and creativity, to make the old-fashioned furniture looks completely new, not only to exert the concept of cherishing the durability of material things, but most of all to polish it with an even higher added-value.

Every corner is meticulously planned, a wall, a turning corner, even the plants on the tables will make your eyes brighten up.  All these not only depicts the grace of beauty, but can also expound the dharma and spread the dharma.

Slow down your steps, please come to Jing Si Books Café to have leisure time, savour your favourite Jing Si beverages or organic tea.
