Ampang Forest Eco Park is located not far from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur, travel 8km or so from the city centre, along Jalan Ampang/Jalan Bukit Belacan and here you will chance upon the unique forest surprise (IBA Code: MY10).
Seen from above, amongst the once 25,000 hectare of Lowland Forest Reserve, the actual birding site is neatly hidden from view. Ampang Forest Eco Park is a water catchment area consisting of Lowland Dipterocarp Forest. A well-paved road approximately one kilometer long runs from the car park into the forest up to the Ampang Water Intake Compound. It is here along the paved road that birdwatching is favoured. A clear, small river flows through Taman Rimba Ampang which is an ideal habitat for the Blue-banded Kingfisher, a globally threatened species.
