SUBANG JAYA, 8 August 2026 – The Selangor State Government, through Tourism Selangor, continues to strengthen its commitment to developing the state’s tourism industry through the Selangor Tourism Awards 2026, a prestigious platform that recognises excellence, innovation, and the contributions of industry players in enhancing Selangor’s tourism brand at both domestic and international levels.
The ceremony, held at the Grand Lagoon Ballroom, Sunway Resort Hotel, Subang Jaya, was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor, and brought together approximately 1,000 tourism industry players, government agencies, media representatives, and strategic partners from Malaysia and abroad.
The event was further enlivened by the presence of tourism industry delegates from Indonesia, including representatives from ASITA (Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies) and ASTINDO (Asosiasi Travel Agent Indonesia), reflecting the growing tourism collaboration between Selangor and Indonesia.
In line with the aspirations of Visit Selangor Year 2026, a total of 26 award categories were introduced to recognise outstanding achievements within the state’s tourism sector. Key categories included the Best Integrated Resort & Theme Park Destination, International Tourism Partnership Award, and Selangor Cruise Tourism Excellence Award, among others. These awards honour individuals and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional performance, significant impact, and unwavering commitment to advancing Selangor’s tourism industry.
In his speech, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari emphasised that Selangor’s success today is the result of the collective efforts and commitment of the entire tourism ecosystem.
“In the tourism sector, Selangor continues to make history by maintaining its position as the most visited state in Malaysia for five consecutive years since 2021. In 2025, Selangor recorded 36.4 million domestic visitors, representing a 5.5 per cent increase compared to the previous year. This achievement further strengthens Selangor’s position as a preferred destination while contributing to the state’s economic growth and fiscal strength.”
He also highlighted that the state’s tourism performance goes hand in hand with Selangor’s strong economic standing as Malaysia’s leading economic contributor.
“Selangor remains the largest contributor to the national economy with a GDP of RM460.1 billion, representing 26.5 per cent of Malaysia’s overall economy. This achievement reflects the state’s economic strength, investor confidence, and the effectiveness of sustainable and inclusive development policies.”
Selangor continues to record remarkable achievements by retaining its status as Malaysia’s most visited state for five consecutive years since 2021, with 36.4 million domestic visitors recorded in 2025. This accomplishment further reinforces Selangor’s position as a preferred tourism destination and contributes significantly to the state’s economic growth.
The success of Visit Selangor Year 2025 has laid a strong foundation for the implementation of Visit Selangor Year 2026, which targets nine million tourist arrivals and aims to strengthen Selangor’s position as a key regional tourism gateway. To support this aspiration, Tourism Selangor continues to intensify promotional initiatives through campaigns such as Surprising Selangor, Selangor Kan Ada!, and Liburan Sehat Ya di Selangor Aja! across both domestic and international markets.
The Selangor Tourism Awards 2026 reflects the continuous commitment of the Selangor State Government and Tourism Selangor in recognising industry contributions, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring that Selangor remains a leading tourism destination in Malaysia and the ASEAN region.
