MEDIA RELEASE
KLANG, 4 November 2025 — The state of Selangor today celebrated the graduation of 49 participants from the Selangor Local Community Host (HKSS) programme representing the Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam districts. The graduates successfully completed their training and were awarded certificates of appreciation from Tourism Selangor after undergoing training under the Skills Development Department (JPK) and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC). The ceremony, held at Wyndham Acmar, Klang, was officiated by YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, EXCO of Local Government and Tourism Selangor.
YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim in a statement said, with these trained Community Hosts, destinations like Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam will shine as examples of community-based tourism that benefit both the economy and our heritage. The HKSS program is part of Selangor’s long-term tourism vision, including projects like SABDA under the Selangor First Plan (RS-1), promoting agro-tourism, cultural heritage, and authentic local experiences.
Launched in 2018, the HKSS program has received full support from local authorities, including the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council and Sabak Bernam District Council. The initiative empowers communities to showcase Selangor’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and rural experiences from the rice fields of Sekinchan to the fireflies of Kampung Kuantan.
Chua Yee Ling, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor added, “HKSS is Malaysia’s first community-based tourism program with a comprehensive training module and serves as a reference for other states. This initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to involving communities in economic development while building social resilience.”
The new graduates are expected to boost tourist arrivals in Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam by 5,000 to 10,000 visitors annually, enhancing the local economy and cultural identity.
The event also honoured Selangor’s iconic tourism attractions through Tourism Selangor’s Iconic Tourism Products and Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance (MYTQA) awards and certification. Attractions recognised include Farm in the City, Kelip-Kelip Sanctuary, Gua Damai Extreme Park, Cloud Base Venture Paragliding, Skytrex Sungai Congkak, Ah Ma House, and Chocolate Museum. These awards highlight Selangor’s commitment to quality, authentic, and memorable tourism experiences.
