66TH NATIONAL DAY SHEDS A LIGHT TO THE TOURISM INDUSTRY
SELANGOR, 1st September 2023 – The National Day was commemorated with the theme “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” after the temporary halt during the pandemic. The 66th National Day celebrates the unity of Malaysians to further fortify this multiracial nation.
The influx of tourists celebrating this year’s 66th National Day has cast light on the tourism business by displaying an assortment of Malaysian specialties from culture, heritage and gastronomy (food tourism). Tourism Selangor, the state tourism promotional agency of Selangor, brought key tourism industry players, Capital A Berhad, Sunway Lagoon, GM Klang, and Le Meridien, to the National Day Celebration at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam this year.
A total of 117 contingents have participated, representing the splendid tourism segments in Selangor, such as theme parks, shopping experiences, hotels, and the tourist accessibility in Selangor. Throughout the parade, the public was able to experience the Nights of Frights event in Sunway Lagoon, which is brought to the Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, vouchers and discounts by Le Meridien Hotel Petaling Jaya, souvenirs from GM Klang, and discount codes for Air Asia Ride by Capital A Berhad.
This National Day, Tourism Selangor is redoubling its efforts to promote Selangor’s tourism attractions after the State of Selangor being announced as the most visited state in 2022 with over 22 million visitors. Featuring around 11 historical structures, the trail of the Royal Klang Town Heritage Walk was recently published on the Tourism Selangor YouTube Channel, showcasing the culture and heritage of Malaysia in the Royal Town of Klang.
According to Azrul Shah Mohamad, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, the National Day and the forthcoming Malaysia Day on September 16th are opportunities for us to embrace Malaysian unity by showcasing our unique culture and heritage, as well as the splendid services offered to tourists, for the betterment of our economy.
As a developing country, the tourism industry is crucial to the economy. Domestic tourism in Selangor has made an incredible achievement by constantly leading the tourism industry, with the biggest contribution to the country’s GDP (up to RM 40.9 billion) in 2022, with 26.5% coming from the service sector.
