RAMPS UP THE EUROPEAN TRAVEL DEMANDS IN SELANGOR THROUGH ECOTOURISM
Tourism Selangor Strengthens Position in the European Travel Market during ITB Berlin 2023
SELANGOR, 13th March 2023 – Tourism Selangor, the Official Tourism Promotion Agency for the State of Selangor, has participated in the ITB Berlin 2023 in Germany, held from 7th until 9th March 2023. Selangor’s delegation was headed by the Honourable Mr Hee Loy Sian, the Selangor State Executive Councillor of Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Orang Asli Affairs, alongside Tourism Selangor’s officers and selected Municipal Councils of Selangor.
Participation in the ITB Berlin 2023 this year aims to further position Selangor on the global map, especially in the European countries, while introducing the new tourism attractions in Selangor that potentially to be marketed such as eco-tourism and the Gombak-Hulu Langat (GHL) Geopark Project.
The Gombak-Hulu Langat (GHL) Geopark Project that has just recently obtained the National Geopark status was launched during ITB Berlin this year. Spans over 112,955 hectares that consists of 13 geosites in Gombak and 7 geosites in Hulu Langat such as Klang Gates Quartz RIdge, Kanching Eco Forest Park and Selayang Hot Spring, the GHL Geopark plays an important role in the preservation of the state’s natural resources which benefit the people of Selangor annually by its natural and cultural asset.
The Honourable Mr Hee Loy Sian, the Selangor’s EXCO of Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Orang Asli Affairs in a statement said, the core narrative for this year’s promotional mission through the ITB Berlin 2023 is focusing on the industry niche of eco-tourism to pique the interests of international delegates from all over the world during the event.
Moving under the umbrella of Tourism Malaysia and the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), six Municipal Councils of Selangor has involved in the ITB Berlin this year; Kuala Langat, Selayang, Ampang Jaya, Kajang, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor Municipal Council to showcase their tourism products during the event this year, alongside a sharing session with the European Travel Agents and Tour Operators (ECTAA).
The European market is one of the key contributors of international travelling to the State of Selangor, pre-pandemic. The state of Selangor has received over 31,185 tourists from Germany in 2019. With the traveling ban lifted, the state foresee a surge of international tourists inflow by 5% increase with an additional of over 3.5 million tourists.
Tourism Selangor also brought the “Splendid Selangor Take Me Anywhere” to ITB Berlin 2023. The campaign is geared towards positioning Selangor on the global map. The Splendid Selangor campaign is a significant effort to increase cooperation between the countries. The collaboration with participated agencies this year will involve prospective partnerships via FAM trips with media and travel agencies, cross-promotion series, roadshows, and sales missions.
