PRE- MEDIA RELEASE
SHAH ALAM, 1 May 2025– The Selangor Mega Food Fest 2025 was officially launched today at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, drawing thousands of visitors from across Malaysia and abroad. The festival is one of the highlight events under the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) campaign, aimed at promoting the state’s culinary heritage, cultural richness and tourism offerings to the public.
The launching ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Tourism, who extended his deepest appreciation to all parties involved in making the festival a success, including Tourism Selangor, Shah Alam City Council, sponsors, local entrepreneurs and the local community.
According to YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, “Selangor is not only known for its diverse food offerings, but each dish served in this state represents the cultural heritage and traditions of our people. This festival proves that food is not merely for consumption, but a way to experience our local communities’ identity and way of life.”
Held over four days from 1 to 4 May 2025, the festival features various food zones including Selangor heritage cuisine, viral and urban food, as well as dishes prepared by entrepreneurs under the PLATS Selangor initiative. Over 100 local entrepreneurs are participating and the event is expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors throughout the Selangor Mega Food Fest 2025.
The festival was further graced by the presence of YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the Chief Minister of Selangor, who officiated the flag-off ceremony for the International Women’s Day Run (5km and 10km categories), which saw participation from over 1,000 runners.
YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim also emphasised that events like this not only offer visitors a taste of local delicacies but also provide direct economic benefits to the community, including homestay operators, food vendors, tour guides and micro-entrepreneurs. This aligns with the Selangor State Government’s goal to welcome 8 million tourist arrivals and achieve RM11.7 billion in tourism-related transactions under VSY2025
“With festivals like this, Selangor continues to strengthen its position as a premier food tourism destination in Malaysia. I urge all Malaysians and tourists alike to come and experience this extraordinary culinary celebration,” he concluded.
