SELANGOR RAMPS UP TRAVEL DEMAND FROM INDIA
Tourism Selangor Strengthens Position in the Southeast Asia Travel Market during South Asia’a Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE)
SELANGOR, 26th February 2024 — Tourism Selangor, the official Tourism Promotion Agency for the State of Selangor, has embarked on an international roadshow and participated in the South Asia’s Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) in India, held from 12th until 24th of February 2024. Selangor’s delegation was headed by Tourism Malaysia, alongside Tourism Selangor’s officers.
The first international roadshow this year aims to further position Selangor on the global map, especially to woo tourists from India that striked the highest tourist influx to Selangor. The Malaysian delegations managed to hold B2B sessions with travel agents in Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. With a population reaching over 70 million people in all 3 districts, India is one of the largest tourism markets for Malaysia, especially Selangor. The State of Selangor has received 65,573 tourists from India in 2022, which is the highest compared to other Southeast Asia’s countries.
Participation in the roadshows and the South Asia’s Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE) this year has potentially marketed focus tourism segmentation of Selangor; food tourism, ecotourism, medical tourism, theme parks and Weddings Venue. Several tourism products were also brought this year to entice the demands in India; Sunway Lagoon, Sunway Pyramid, SplashMania Water Theme Park, Sky Mirror Kuala Selangor and Sekinchan.
Azrul Shah Mohamad, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor in a statement said, 2024 is the right time for Selangor to resume our extensive collaboration with the tourism industry players in India. Supported by the frequent flight connectivity with 181 flights weekly and 33,851 seats capacity, we are convinced that there will be a surge of tourists from India coming to Malaysia in the upcoming years.
“With a mission to achieve 7 million tourists influx during Visit Selangor Year 2025, we have signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with the South Tamil Nadu Association of Travel and Tourism (STATT), Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) and Network of Indian MICE Agents (NIMA) to further intensify cross promotion efforts between the State of Selangor and India. It is expected that our bilateral relationship between the state of Selangor and India will remain strong and prosper”, he added.
The Southeast Asia’s market is one of the key contributors of international travelling to the State of Selangor, pre-pandemic. The state of Selangor has received 186,434 tourists from India in 2019. With continuous tourism efforts, the state foresee a suge of international tourists inflow by year end marking 1.1 million international tourists.
Tourism Selangor also brought the “Splendid Selangor Take Me Anywhere” to their roadshow to India and the South Asia’s Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE). The campaign is geared towards positioning Selangor on the global map. The Splendid Selangor campaign is a significant effort to increase cooperation between Selangor and interested nations. The collaboration with participating agencies this year will involve prospective partnerships via FAM trips with media and travel agencies, cross-promotion series, roadshows, and sales missions.
