Dr. Mohamed Ali bin Abu Bakar, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) in a statement said, we are delighted to maintain our presence in Indonesia, offering Indonesians convenient and affordable medical services. The most sought-after treatments by Indonesians in Malaysia include cancer care, orthopedics, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, cardiology, and comprehensive medical examinations.
“Medical services in Malaysia are competitively priced, making it a very attractive destination for Indonesians looking for affordable healthcare without compromising on its quality. Through this exhibition, we intend to ensure that Indonesians can get a complete and informative medical treatment”, he added.
Medical tourism in Selangor has seen exceptional growth. With 64.49 million foreign patients and 87.98 million health tourists reported across Malaysia, Selangor ranks among the top three states, welcoming 115,568 medical tourists. In 2023, Selangor saw a substantial rise in visitors from Indonesia, with 168,116 arrivals compared to 103,448 in 2022, reflecting an impressive 62.5% increase.
Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the Chief Minister of Selangor stated, hospitals in Selangor are equipped with cutting-edge medical technology and staffed by highly qualified professionals. Our commitment to providing an exceptional medical tourism experience is rooted in superior service and warm hospitality. This dedication is evident as Selangor boasts the highest life expectancy among all Malaysian states. In 2023, the average life expectancy in Selangor rose to 78.1 years, compared to 2022 with 75.2 years.
“The State of Selangor is confident that Indonesian tourists will receive top-notch hospitality and facilities while visiting. With 354 weekly flights from various destinations in Indonesia to Selangor, offering a total of 63,857 one-way seats per week, accessibility is highly convenient for tourists seeking medical treatment while enjoying their vacation in Selangor,” he added.
In a move to strengthen bilateral relations through medical tourism with Indonesia, Tourism Selangor has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Avisena Specialist Hospital, Golden Horses Health Sanctuary and KPJ Healthcare. This MoU outlines a framework for collaboration to develop medical tourism packages and attract foreign medical tourists and travel agents to Selangor.
Malaysia has long been a preferred destination for Indonesian citizens, both for travel and medical treatment. Its proximity, similar culture, language, and cuisine, coupled with affordable prices, make Malaysia an ideal choice for medical tourism. Selangor, in particular, offers medical tourists not only a range of world-class hospital facilities but also beautiful and interesting tourist attractions.
