Tourism Selangor Celebrates ‘Spectrum Of The Sea’ Cruise Ship Arrival
PORT KLANG – Today marks the return of the Spectrum of the Sea Cruise Ship from Singapore to the Port Klang Cruise Terminal, two years after the PKP (Movement Control Order) was enacted countrywide owing to the outbreak of Covid-19. The SuperStar Aquarius Cruise Ship, which carried 1500 passengers, is the last cruise ship to call at the State of Selangor in March 2020. After a brief pause, The Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Spectrum of the Sea from Singapore returned to the Port Klang Cruise Terminal today. The ship carries about 3000 passengers and around 1500 crew members.
Tourism Selangor and Port Klang Cruise Terminal Sdn Bhd took the initiative to host a celebration session for passengers and tourists that docked at Port Klang today in conjunction with the return of the cruise ship to the port. Cultural performances by the Selangor State Department of Culture and Arts (JKKNS), the provision of tourist information center, ‘Canting Batik’ activities, the Food Truck, and a display of Orang Asli Mah Meri handicrafts are among the exciting activities presented.
In a statement, Mr. Azrul Shah bin Mohamad, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, said, “Before the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic, the State of Selangor received more than 500,000 tourists in 2019 and more than 300,000 tourists in 2020 via cruise ships at Port Klang Cruise Terminal.” This demonstrates how significant the market potential is for cruise tourism segmentation. After the execution of the policy of reopening the country’s entrance on April 1, 2022, the tourism industry, particularly cruise tourism, has indeed been given new life. When international cruise ships come back to the State of Selangor today, it will be good for the state’s economy and help its tourism industry grow.”
“Passengers will stop at Port Klang within 8 hours. Tourism Selangor and Port Klang Cruise Terminal Sdn Bhd collaborated with travel agencies to bring passengers to tourism attractions in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, such as Klang, Shah Alam, and Kuala Langat. Tourism Selangor also collaborates closely with tourism agencies and local authorities (PBT) to ensure that passengers who stop at Port Klang will visit Selangor’s tourism attractions and go shopping.” He added.
At the beginning of this month, it is expected that cruise ships will begin calling at the Port Klang Cruise Terminal on a weekly basis on Fridays. Tourism Selangor, the official tourism promotion agency of the State of Selangor, places particular emphasis on promoting Selangor’s tourism products through cruise tourism. Tourism Selangor will host the Selangor Cruise Festival 2022 on the 29th and 30th of October 2022 at the Port Klang Cruise Terminal to promote cruise tourism in the state of Selangor. The launch of Selangor’s tourist information centre, cultural performances, food festivals, Borneo Street, handicraft demonstrations, cycling sports events, and more are among the events that will take place. This event is expected to be one of the most important ways to market Selangor’s tourism products via the cruise industry internationally.
