Tourism Selangor Unveils Ramadan Campaign to Give Back to the Community

Ramadan is coming and it is time for the long-anticipated Ramadan campaign by Tourism Selangor. Tourism Selangor has unveiled a Ramadan campaign, geared towards benefitting tourism product operators and small merchants in Selangor. The Tourism Selangor Ramadan Festival 2023 will gather five different programmes; Ramadan Buffet Directory Preview, Selera Ramadan Tourism Selangor, Ramadan Buffet Contest, Terjah Bazar Ramadan and Raya Sakan Bersama Tourism Selangor.
Ramadan in Malaysia is a special and wonderful season. This month is not only a time to increase religious activity but also a favorite season for international tourists and visitors. One aspect of promoting tourism, based on food and gastronomy is the excitement of Ramadan bazaars and hotel buffets that offer a choice of tasty Malaysian food selections. During the holy month of Ramadan, Tourism Selangor is using this season to draw attention to several of the state’s best attractions including hotels, shopping areas and street foods.
To kick start the Tourism Selangor Ramadan Festival 2023, Tourism Selangor will gather 16 industry players from selected hotels in Selangor with the best Ramadan Buffet through the Ramadan Buffet Directory Preview, available on its digital platform, Selangor.Travel. Aiming to develop an extensive gastronomic experience, the Ramadan Buffet packages offered this year are one of the major events for the hotel industry players in Selangor after the temporary halt throughout the pandemic, with a significant chance to revamp their businesses after that period.
Signifying appreciation towards these industry players, a series of food reviews through the Selera Ramadan Tourism Selangor is available for the public’s view on TikTok @TourismSelangor. Public will have the chance to win Ramadan Buffet vouchers worth up to RM 11,000.00 through 3 series of contests held across Tourism Selangor’s digital platforms; Selangor.Travel and TikTok @TourismSelangor.
Giving back to Community
Local tourists and industry players play a major role in Selangor’s tourism inflow, with 4.5 million tourists visiting Selangor during the first half of 2022, 73% of it coming from domestic tourism. In support towards the local economy, 2 series of programmes will be conducted in tandem with the objective of Tourism Selangor Ramadan Festival 2023 to not only assisting tourism product operators but also small merchants.
The Terjah Bazar Ramadan and Raya Sakan Bersama Tourism Selangor will gather over 40 small merchants, hawkers and shopping malls to instill buying power in the state throughout Ramadan and Aidilfitri eve, from the potential Ramadan Bazar to be promoted, local iconic Ramadan cuisines, to a shopping spree in Selangor for Aidilfitri.
Despite the consistent support for domestic tourism in Selangor, the month of Ramadan is still affecting these industry players due to the halt of tourism activities during Ramadan, considering that Malaysia is a Muslim Majority country. Hence, Tourism Selangor initiated this effort to mainly prepare these groups of industry players for the Aidilfitri Eve.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, Azrul Shah Mohamad in a statement said, going towards the mission of the state of Selangor in making the state a smart, livable and prosperous state; it has been the responsibility of Tourism Selangor to assist and promote the potential tourist attractions in Selangor, especially for the affected industries.
