TOURISM SELANGOR WILL HOST GLOBAL CONVENTION TO RESET TOURISM
Tourism Selangor Announces a 2-day Hybrid Conference to Share Insights on Impactful Tourism Re-emergence
PETALING JAYA, 23 November 2021 – Tourism Selangor Global Convention 2021 (TSGC 2021) will act as a catalyst towards inducing prominent changes, ensuring a successful re-entry of the tourism industry beginning 2022. Tourism Selangor, wholly-owned by Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI Selangor) will organize the Global Convention making its debut this December 10th and 11th at New World Petaling Jaya Hotel.
SOPs are now easing up, and most Malaysians have received their double dose of vaccination. At the current rate, Malaysia is presently on the path towards steadily-building a nationwide herd immunity. “With international tourism expected to rebound in 2022, vital investors will be looking forward to the prospect of re-opening hotels, landmarks, and other hot-spots,” said Y.A.B. Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor.
“Tourism is one of the largest industries in Malaysia, which has contributed 13.3% to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019,” said Y.B. Tuan Hee Loy Sian, Selangor’s State Executive Council Member of Tourism and Environment. “However, the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the industry and caused a drop in contribution to the GDP with only 5.5% in 2020”.
TSGC 2021 will feature business leaders and influential individuals to share their thoughts on the future of tourism. Among the names include Jazeman Jaafar – Malaysian International Racing Driver, Chef Zam – Malaysian Celebrity Chef, and Che’ Puan Juliana Evans – Actor, Celebrity, and Tourism Selangor’s Pusing Selangor Dulu” Campaign Ambassador. Key personalities from the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation, and ShopeePay will also be present.
The topics that will be discussed include ‘Digital Tourism 4.0 and E-Commerce’, ‘Innovation and Diversity in Tourism Business Survival During the Pandemic’, ‘Influencers in Tourism Destination’, ‘Sports Tourism’, ‘Creative Tourism and the Film Industry’, and ‘C – Level Tourism Dialogue’.
The ‘Pusing Selangor Dulu Travel Fair’ will precede TSGC 2021 and take place from 10am to 10pm at Concourse Square, Paradigm Mall from the 3rd to the 5th of December. Walk-ins are open to the fully-vaccinated. This event will offer exclusive travel packages and also house exhibitions from MAS Golden Holidays, Jump Street Asia, SkyMirror Travel & Tours, Sunway Lagoon, and Skytrex Adventure Sg Chongkak.

Following the Convention, various pocket events will be held including the Malaysia Tourism Council Gold Awards 2021 on the 9th of December 2021, which Tourism Selangor proudly becomes its Strategic Partner. Meanwhile, the application for Selangor’s Tourism Aid Grants, which is a part of Selangor’s Tourism Recovery Plan is now open to the members of the public until the 31st of December 2021. With an allocation of RM 1 million under the Kita Selangor 2.0 Package, this initiative aims to recover and promote Selangor’s tourism industry, in overcoming the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
