SEKINCHAN, SABAK BERNAM, 28 April 2025– The Selangor State Government, through Tourism Selangor, proudly presents a historic tourism event, the Festival Sawah Padi Sekinchan 2025, the first paddy field festival ever held in Malaysia. Taking place from 26 to 27 April 2025 at Terminal Sekinchan, Sabak Bernam, this two-day celebration marks a new chapter in agrotourism, cultural appreciation and community-based economic development.
As Malaysia’s first paddy field festival, this initiative positions Sekinchan and Selangor as trailblazers in the tourism industry, especially in promoting inclusive, sustainable and experiential rural tourism. Festival attractions include paddy field marathon (5km and 10 km), food festival by U-PLATS, Pasar Palong (local market), Travel Hunt Sekinchan, Tourism Exhibitions, tram ride around paddy field, cultural performance by local arts group, 4 wheels drive challenge, free health screening by KPJ Healthcare, glamping set-up by Anbot Store and more.
The festival was officiated by YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, the Chief Minister of Selangor, alongside YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor State EXCO for Local Government and Tourism, with support from key partners and tourism stakeholders.
YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, in a statement said, “The Sekinchan Paddy Festival 2025 is a key platform to boost rural tourism in line with the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign. We believe that strategic collaboration with local communities will strengthen the state’s economy and promote Selangor as a unique tourism destination.”
YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, added, “Sekinchan is not just a rice granary area but also a symbol of harmony between nature and culture. This festival will attract domestic and international tourists to experience distinctive agrotourism. We are targeting 13,000 visitors over the two-day event.”
