KLIA 2, SELANGOR, 29 April 2025– Tourism Selangor, together with Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) and AirAsia, has officially launched a special tourism campaign to promote Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) taking Selangor’s tourism aspirations to the skies aboard AirAsia aircraft. The launch was officiated by YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor’s EXCO for Local Government and Tourism, together with Dato’ Captain Fareh Mazputra, the Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia Malaysia.
Through dynamic advertising solutions by AirAsia Media, a total of 15 AirAsia Malaysia planes will carry colorful promotional visuals of Selangor’s tourist spots inside the cabin, including on the overhead compartments and seatbacks. These planes fly to key destinations in ASEAN countries and China, helping to introduce Selangor to more international travelers.
The aircraft involved in the campaign operate flights from Kuala Lumpur to key ASEAN cities as well as destinations in China, including Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Kunming, Ningbo, Nanning, Shantou, Guilin, and Quanzhou. In 2024 alone, AirAsia carried nearly 1.3 million passengers from China to Malaysia, with approximately 12% being transit travelers via Fly-Thru routes.
Yang Berhormat Dato’ Ng Suee Lim in a statement said, Visit Selangor Year 2025 is more than just a tourism campaign and it is part of our bigger plan to boost Selangor’s economy through smart collaborations and stronger international presence. Our collaboration with AirAsia is a key step forward for us to tap into key markets like China and the ASEAN region, which are vital for tourism growth. Through initiatives like this, we not only showcase Selangor’s diverse attractions but also bolster investor confidence, foster international connections and elevate the state’s economic standing. With sustained momentum, we are confident in achieving our goal of welcoming 8 million tourists by the end of 2025.

This launch marks an important step in Selangor’s ongoing efforts to attract more international tourists, particularly from China and Southeast Asia, especially in strengthening Selangor’s presence in key regional markets by reaching travellers directly through AirAsia’s extensive network. In addition, Tourism Selangor continues to promote the state through various initiatives, including participation in international tourism expos, targeted promotional roadshows in major Chinese cities, the release of special VSY2025 videos in Chinese and active engagement on popular China’s platforms such as WeChat, Douyin, Weibo and Xiaohongshu.
Selangor aims to welcome 8 million tourist arrivals in 2025, with an expected RM11.7 billion in tourism revenue. The collaboration with AirAsia that is known for its extensive route network across ASEAN and China is set to be a major catalyst in achieving this goal. Visit Selangor Year 2025 is a comprehensive initiative designed to promote the state’s rich cultural heritage, diverse culinary offerings and vibrant tourism experiences on the international stage.
