Selangor, 13 July 2025 – Tourism Selangor proudly congratulates the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) on its historic recognition as Malaysia’s sixth UNESCO World Heritage Site and most notably, the first ever located in the state of Selangor.
This prestigious global recognition marks a monumental milestone for FRIM, Selangor, core Malaysia at large, positionin FRIt on y as a word-class coural for tropical forestry research and biodiversity conservation, heritage jewel for both domestic and international visitors to explore.
Prior to FRIM’s listing, all five of Malaysia’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites were located in Kinabalu Park in Sabah, Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak, Melaka and George Town, the archaeological heritage of the Lenggong Valley in Perak, and the archaeological heritage of the Niah National Park Caves Complex in Sarawak. FRIM’s inclusion now shines the spotlight on Selangor as a thriving destination for eco-tourism, scientific discovery, and sustainable heritage appreciation.
As Selangor embarks on its tourism campaign, Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025), this recognition arrives at a timely and meaningful moment, reaffirming the state’s commitment to championing sustainability, conservation, and cultural preservation through tourism.
Tourism Selangor will continue working closely with stakeholders to promote responsible tourism, develop immersive tourist experiences, and maximise the socio-economic benetits of FRIM’s UNESCO recognition. Looking ahead, the state is also setting its sights on global recognition for the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark by 2028, with the upcoming 2026 national reassessment serving as a crucial milestone. Tourism Selangor remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting FRIM and advancing eco-tourism, sustainability, and conservation efforts across Selangor.
