SELANGOR ENHANCES COMMUNITY-BASED CULTURAL TOURISM FOR 2023
Elevate Community Champion in Selangor for Extensive Travelling Experience
SELANGOR, 15 May 2023 – To elevate the Community Based Cultural Tourism in Selangor, Tourism Selangor has once again conducted a cross-sharing series, with Terengganu being the first state for this year. Assisted by Tourism Terengganu and Terengganu City and Nature Tourist Guide Association (TCNGA), this series of visits in Terengganu lasted for 4 days from 9th May to 12th May 2023.
The trip was led by the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, Azrul Shah bin Mohamad, along with four local councils; Kuala Selangor Municipal Council, Hulu Selangor Municipal Council Kajang Municipal Council and Sabak Bernam District Council. The programme showcased a series of Community Based Tourism in Terengganu including Kalang Warisan, Noor Arfa Batik, Kenyir Elephant Conservation Villa (KECV), Terengganu Cultural Village, Payang Water Taxi and Pasar Payang, as recommended by Tourism Terengganu and Terengganu City and Nature Tourist Guide Association (TCNGA).
Azrul Shah Mohamad, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor in a statement said the State of Selangor has been actively involved in the development of community-based tourism. This is to ensure that the key tourism players and the community can provide the support needed to improve the local tourism industry. This is another step taken by Tourism Selangor in playing an important role in creating networks and links between various tourism sectors.
Geared up since 2018, the Selangor Local Community Hosts is developed to elevate more Community Champion that is able to identify, pioneer and mobilise community-based cultural tourism in Selangor, while improving several iconic tourism hotspots such as Kajang Heritage Centre, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Agro Tourism in Sungai Panjang Sabak Bernam and Fireflies Park in Kuala Selangor. This will be further enhanced with the execution of Community-Based Tourism while ensuring Selangor tourism products are competitive, innovative and in accordance with current trends and demands.
The Selangor Local Community Hosts will be able to intensity the state’s tourism with extensive experiential tourism for the tourists. The efforts will directly contribute towards the “Nak Bercuti? Pusing Selangor Dulu!” campaign, to establish Selangor as a prominent travel destination while increasing cooperation between interested state’s tourism bodies.
