SELANGOR, 20 June 2025– Selangor has once again proven itself as Malaysia’s most visited state, recording a remarkable 34.5 million visitors in 2024, according to the latest report by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). The state outperformed Kuala Lumpur (27 million) and Perak (21.8 million), maintaining its leading position for four consecutive years since 2021. The 2024 figure represents a 25% increase from 2023, where Selangor welcomed 27.6 million visitors.
A key driver of this growth is the introduction of new tourism products and experiences across Selangor since 2024, including attractions like SplashMania Waterpark, Skyline Luge, The Hillock Hulu Tamu, Beacons Resort and more. These were complemented by high-impact events such as the Visit Selangor Year 2025 Mega Concert, MotoGP Malaysia, Petaling Jaya Half Marathon and others. At the same time, Selangor has seen a steady rise in niche tourism segments such as medical tourism, golf tourism, education tourism, agro-tourism and eco-tourism, further diversifying the state’s tourism offerings.
Local Councils, tourism operators and industry partners also have played a pivotal role in activating these initiatives, creating a vibrant tourism ecosystem that continues to attract both local and international visitors.
Chua Yee Ling, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor in a statement said, we are ramping up efforts leading into the second half of 2025, including the upcoming launch of the Visit Selangor Year 2025 Grant, offering up to RM300,000 in funding for more than 30 tourism-related events and projects. Additionally, the Selangor Community Hosts programme has been revived, with 50 hosts appointed in Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, reinforcing community-based tourism in rural districts and enhancing the visitor experience at the grassroots level.
We are confident that more collaborative tourism programmes will take shape. Our Public-Private Partnerships with brands such as Sony Malaysia, Batik Air, Cuckoo and AVIS Malaysia have already laid the groundwork for impactful tourism campaigns,” Chua added.
Looking ahead, Selangor aims to expand tourism infrastructure, intensify digital marketing initiatives and introduce innovative travel experiences to sustain momentum for Visit Selangor Year 2025 and ultimately support Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
