MEDIA RELEASE
Makassar, Indonesia, 19 June 2025– The State of Selangor continues its proactive efforts to promote regional medical tourism with its participation in the Malaysia Healthcare Expo (MHX) Indonesia 2025, taking place in Makassar and Yogyakarta from 19 to 27 June 2025. The expo is organised by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) as part of a strategic initiative to attract medical travellers from Indonesia.
Selangor’s participation in this expo presents an excellent opportunity to showcase the state’s medical facilities and healthcare services offered by its specialist hospitals. The hospitals participating include MAHSA Hospital, Avisena Specialist Hospital, Sunway Medical Centre, MSU Medical Hospital, Alpha IVF Women Specialist and KPJ Healthcare Berhad. Selangor’s presence at MHX is further enhanced by the inclusion of tourism products such as homestays, SME-based local products (IKS) and MedAir services for medical flight services.
Selangor currently offers 42 private hospitals, equipped with the latest technology and internationally certified professionals, providing expertise in various specialties including cardiology, orthopaedics, fertility treatments (IVF), oncology and general medicine.
In a statement, YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Tourism, highlighted that Indonesia remains a key contributor to Malaysia’s healthcare tourism sector. As of May 2024, over 170,000 healthcare travellers from Indonesia had visited Malaysia, with expenditure exceeding RM400 million. The country’s economic growth and rising middle class are seen as key drivers of demand for high-quality healthcare services.
“Capitalising on the upcoming Visit Selangor Year 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026, Tourism Selangor is introducing the campaign ‘Liburan Sehat Ya Di Selangor Aja!’, which offers a complete healthcare tourism package, from treatment and recovery to wellness-inspired holidays,” he added.
The state is also highlighting an expanded range of tourism offerings tailored to the medical travellers seeking aftercare tourism experiences. A total of 15 tourism product operators have joined forces to develop packages for Indonesian medical tourists. These include popular attractions such as Farm in the City, Selangor Fruit Valley, Sunway Theme Parks, the Chocolate Museum, Le Meridien Petaling Jaya, Kembara Salam Travel and Tours and a few others, with more than 50 travel buyers from Indonesia taking part in this cross-border initiative.
YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim also emphasised that the Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Consumer (B2C) sessions held throughout the expo have opened up opportunities for cross-border collaboration between hospitals, travel agencies and private industry players. This initiative not only strengthens Selangor’s position as a premier healthcare tourism destination in Asia but is also expected to contribute to a 3 to 5 percent increase in healthcare tourist arrivals from Makassar and Yogyakarta between 2025 and 2026..
