Johor Bahru, 20 January 2025 – Selangor is stepping up its efforts to solidify its position as a leading tourism destination in ASEAN by leveraging the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2025 to promote the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign. Aiming to attract 8 million tourists and generate RM 11.7 billion in tourism revenue, Tourism Selangor is focusing on strategic partnerships and creating innovative tourism experiences.
Under the theme “Surprising Selangor” the campaign showcases the state’s rich attractions, from cultural heritage and ecotourism to theme parks and distinctive gastronomic delights. Key destinations featured at ATF 2025 include Gombak Hulu Langat Geopark, SplashMania Waterpark, Sekinchan Paddy Fields, Sunway Resort Hotel, Eastin Hotel, Nazbell Cottage and Selangor Fruit Valley.
Tourism Selangor also hosted a luncheon to launch the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign. Over 250 buyers and media representatives were invited to a 3 day and 2 night familiarisation trip designed to highlight Selangor’s unique attractions and vibrant tourism offerings. The highlight of the luncheon was a captivating performance by Aizat Amdan, who debuted the official campaign song, “Surprising Selangor”.
ATF 2025 presents a unique platform for Selangor to shine on the global tourism stage. The event, attended by delegates from ASEAN countries such as Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Lao PDR and Vietnam, is expected to attract over 1,000 buyers and sellers. Tourism Selangor anticipates significant sales during the TRAVEX sessions.
Tourism Selangor’s participation is backed by partnerships with key industry players, including DRB-Hicom Ez-Drive (AVIS Malaysia), Gamuda Land Leisure (GL Play), PADAT and Batik Air Malaysia. These collaborations underline the state’s commitment to forging bilateral ties and launching targeted campaigns that boost visibility and appeal. With the “Surprising Selangor” initiative, the state is poised to surpass its 2025 tourism targets.
The Honourable Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor’s EXCO for Local Government and Tourism in a statement state, ASEAN remains crucial to Selangor’s tourism growth. In 2023, Selangor welcomed over 3.2 million tourists via Kuala Lumpur International Airport and another 55,079 through Subang Skypark, marking increases of 220% and 165% respectively compared to 2022. Of these, 12.82% were from ASEAN countries.
“As we launch Visit Selangor Year 2025, we invite travel agencies, airlines and media partners from across ASEAN to collaborate with us. Together, we can showcase Selangor’s diverse offerings through exciting tourism packages”, he added.
With its robust strategy and innovative approach, Selangor is well-positioned to drive economic growth and cement its reputation as a premier ASEAN destination.
