CHINA, 17 MARCH 2025– Selangor targets a 25% increase in tourist arrivals from China as the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) campaign gains traction. The recent launch of the official VSY2025 promotional video for the Chinese market marks a significant milestone in the state’s international tourism efforts. This initiative aims to strengthen Selangor’s presence in China, showcasing its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes and diverse tourism experiences.
The launch took place as part of the Sales Mission to China from 8th to 18th March 2025, an initiative organised by Tourism Malaysia covering four key cities; Kunming, Chengdu, Qingdao and Zhengzhou. China remains Selangor’s top international tourist source, with 352,001 Chinese visitors recorded in 2023 and 384,811 arrivals up until September 2024. Among the most popular destinations for Chinese tourists in Selangor are Petaling and Hulu Langat districts, known for their vibrant city attractions, shopping hubs, nature retreats and cultural experiences.
The promotional video highlights Selangor’s bustling cities, serene beaches, eco-adventure destinations and exceptional culinary scene. Chinese tourists can now watch the VSY2025 video in Chinese through popular social media platforms such as Weibo, Xiaohongshu and Facebook.
Chua Yee Ling, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, emphasised the importance of the Chinese market, stating, “China has always been a key market for Selangor’s tourism industry. We anticipate a significant increase of up to 25% in tourist arrivals this year. Tourism Selangor is excited to bring the essence of Visit Selangor Year 2025 to the China market.”
During the Sales Mission, Tourism Selangor engaged with over 200 buyers in each city, alongside 60 Malaysian sellers, facilitating B2B meetings, G2G discussions, media collaborations and networking sessions. To further strengthen ties with China’s travel industry, a series of Familiarisation (FAM) trips will be organised throughout 2025, allowing travel agents to experience Selangor’s unique attractions firsthand and develop exclusive travel packages.
“Tourism is a bridge that connects cultures, strengthens economies, and creates unforgettable experiences. Through the Sales Mission to China, we reaffirm our commitment to making Selangor a must-visit destination for Chinese tourists. By leveraging joint marketing campaigns, digital promotions and exclusive travel offerings, Selangor aims to solidify its position as a top travel destination while setting the stage for Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” added Chua Yee Ling.
